Welcome to an artists talk by Nina Mangalanayagam, HDK-Valand & Louise Wolthers, The Hasselblad Foundation around a multi-year research collaboration in digital photographic cultures, exploring visual systems around us and the potentiality to disrupt normative logics.


At this artist talk, you will together with Nina Mangalanayagam & Louise Wolthers explore Photography and the Glitch as form, metaphor, and methodology within photography, specifically focusing on digital networked cultures. 

Nina & Louise will also introduce the forthcoming exhibition and a summary of the guest-edited special issue of Philosophy of Photography.



About Nina Mangalanayagam
Nina Mangalanayagam is an artist and Senior Lecturer in Photography at HDK-Valand, University of Gothenburg, Sweden. Her research and visual practice explore belonging, hybridity and decolonial image-making. Alongside her research on Photography and the Glitch with the Hasselblad Foundation, she is working on a three-year artistic research projectColouring-In Sweden. She has a PhD by practice from Westminster University and an MA in Photography from the Royal College of Art, UK. Nina exhibits widely internationally including in the UK, Sri Lanka, Slovenia, Croatia, Slovakia and Germany.

About Louise Wolthers
Louise Wolthers holds a PhD in Art History and is Head of Research and Curator at The Hasselblad Foundation, Gothenburg. She conducts research in photography’s history, theory, and contemporary practices. Collaborative research projects result in publications, symposia and exhibitions – often in collaboration with Gothenburg University – include WATCHED! Surveillance, Art and Photography (2015-2017) and Thresholds: Interwar Lens Cultures (2018-2021). Furthermore, she co-edits and co-curates the annual Hasselblad Award publications and exhibitions. Wolthers publishes widely on photography, contemporary art and visual culture in books, surveys and academic journals such as The Photography Cultures Reader, Journal of European Studies, Photography & Society, photographies, Membrana journal and the recent Swedish history of Photography (Fotografihistorier: Fotografi och bildbruk i Sverige från 1839 till idag, 2022). She currently works on the multiyear curatorial research project Photography and the Glitch with Nina Mangalanayagam, HDK Valand, Gothenburg University.
