On March 13 it's time for a new edition of Göteborgs Film- & TV-bar, in collaboration with HDK-Valand. Our guests for the evening are Axel Danielson and Maximilien Van Aertryck, directors and producers at Plattform Produktion, and Jenny Wiik, senior lecturer and researcher in journalism and media. They meet in a discussion about the camera, the image and democracy, in light of Axel and Maximilien's latest documentary film And the King Said, What a Fantastic Machine, which we have the pleasure to screen during this event.

The discussion will revolve around the camera and the image in today's media flow, but also about how the cinema could play an important role in the discussion about the images we see. Can the cinema be the community space for education around images? The discussion will be in english and moderated by Linda Sternö, lecturer in film at HDK-Valand, University of Gothenburg.

About the film
And the King Said, What a Fantastic Machine does a deep dive in man's relationship with the camera, through its two-hundred-year history until today. The film focuses on how the camera has been used, which economic driving forces lie behind the development and which choices the camera causes us humans to make, and how these affect human behavior and, by extension, the entire society. The film is mostly made with archival material and YouTube clips - everything from the very first photograph of a human, to today's uninterrupted live streams. The film has been awarded at both Sundance and Berlinale, and had its premiere in Swedish cinemas in the autumn of 2023.

When: 13 March. Screening 18:00-19:30, Discussion 19:45-20:45.
Where: Bio Capitol
Free entry, but limited places. Registration via Eventbrite.
After the event you're welcome to continue the discussion at Skanshof.
